1 Kings 2:27
"So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the Lord; that he might fulfil the word of the Lord, which He spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh."
Brethren, as a reminder, mercy does not evade justice. No matter how long the generation might be. Mercy is not to avoid Justice. Last week, it was highlighted that mercy and truth go hand in hand. They meet often times and do not move at divergence. Mercy in a situation usually brings Justice in another situation.
Abiathar was known to be a flawless priest before King David. He served as a reliable priest, but a family lineage declaration of the Lord to his Father’s house was hanging. He served King David in his distressed season. However, whatever God Had declared must come to pass. If God passed mercy no justice can hinder it and if He passed Justice no mercy can stop it. Priest Abiathar would have been put to death for his role in the Adonijah’s coup against King Solomon. Instead of death penalty, King Solomon only removed Abiathar from the office of Priest.
God declared to the house of Eli that his memory would be wiped out of Priesthood in Israel for not checking the excesses of his direct children. As of that time priest Abiathar had not been born. He was born into a situation he never understood, but by the virtue of family ties he was complicated in the generational Justice. Seek God in earnest to hear your cry for mercy.
