2 Samuel 1:26
“I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant has thou been unto me: thy love was wonderful, passing the love of women”
What does it mean for love to be wonderful? It means that such love is full of wonders, more than what the world can imagine. All sacrificial love. The ultimate love. The love between Jonathan and David was wonderful. A lasting love that nothing; even the father of Jonathan ; Saul, was unable to stop his son from loving David that his father hated so much. To love a friend more than the love a man has for a woman is a wonderful love.
Where many love of people are of necessity, the love Jonathan had for David was pleasant and total ; in the sense that he considered a friend to be in advantage of him, even in matters affecting his ego and personality. What a friend in Jonathan? Despite the pressure from his father (Saul) to eliminate David, he (Jonathan ) took a different position to defend and preserve David from the wrath of his father.
The kind of love Jonathan had for David was next to the love Jesus Has for us. To defend and provide for our well being. We can also love as Jesus and Jonathan loved. It is the type of love that God Expects from us. Wonderful love for the people. Jonathan’s generation in Mephibosheth benefited from the love between Jonathan and David; and so we would be able to make way for such benefits for our generation, in Jesus Name. Amen.
