Matthew 14:24
“But the ship was now in the middle of the sea, tossed with waves : for the wind was contrary.”
The ship represents our lives and the sea symbolizes the world we live in. The waves stand for the issues that the world throws at us. Things that happen unexpectedly are like the sudden waves tossing the ship all about. What do we do when we find ourselves in the middle of contrary circumstances brought by contrary winds?
Do we just remain stuck in the wave or strive to get out of it by calling for help? Is it always possible to help ourselves out of the storms of life or call on someone else to help us out. The Apostles were in the ship sailing smooth for hours: until the unexpected happened and they all cannot help one another. As the way out was not easy with the Apostles so there is no easy way out of storms in our generations. However, there is grace in the storm in time of need for help. Amen.
Always, divine attention is necessary for the way out of storm that we suddenly find ourselves. Our faith to stand until the storm is over may not be sufficient to sustain us, because of fear. The contrary wind will not kill us as believers, because it is preparing us for greater tomorrow. How? Jesus is in control. Stand and hold on to the truth that storms do not last for ever. Take on the contrary wind as a source of strength because of Jesus. Amen.
