Acts 15:20
"But we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood"
Pollution in any form is a destroyer. In the above passage, Paul, the Apostles highlighted just a few things to remind us that can cause physical and spiritual pollutions. When Moses was leading the people of Israel in their journey to freedom, he emphasized on these things for them. Many years later, Paul needed to remind both the Jews and Gentiles to abstain from sin, because of the general sinful nature of man.
God hates sin, but loves sinners that repent and yield as clay yields in the hands of the potter. The people Paul was dealing with in the passage above were Christians that lived in the Apostolic days, yet they went astray. It was expedient for Paul to remind them about the fall of man as regards disobedience, idolatry, etc.
Any born – again Christian that indulges in fornication and adultery, needs to repent and make a firm decision today to abstain from them. Abstain means to completely stop for they are sinful acts. Idolatry is ungodly. God detests shedding of blood. Abstain from what God dislikes. However young or old readers may be God is speaking in this devotional today, through Paul. Yield and turn back to God. Jesus completed the works of your own redemption. Take the advantage of what Jesus is still doing. People that are walking the steps of Jesus will never be losers, no matter what is going on. Ask for the support of the Holy Spirit to abstain from all appearances of sin. It is purity before the power of blessing. Praise God.
