Galatians 5:23
"Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
Temperance means “self-control” and it is a fruit manifestation of the Holy Spirit. When you meet with a temperate person, you see someone operating with the unseen power of the Holy Spirit behind him/her. Temperance is all positive nature. However, the concept of temperance is a battle between a divided “self”. The real challenge with self-control is “self”.
Whenever “self” presents any desire, we are always caught up between two options: 1) to satisfy “self” or 2) to control “self”. The initial natural tendency is to satisfy “self” the flesh, while control is often forgotten.
Self-control comes from inside out. Everything we execute comes out from our inside thoughts, including self-control. There is need for self – control for us in our homes, community, career, and indeed anywhere we find ourselves. Let us remember or scripture in Philippians 4:13. Self – control is part of all things we can do, in Christ Jesus. Self – control is not hard with Jesus. HE displayed self – control all the way from HIS birth to cross. We need to learn of Jesus. We have learnt enough of the Church universal or local. Let Jesus be the center of our being. Jesus is the answer to attaining self – control. Learn of HIM. Whenever difficult situation presents itself, remember: What will Jesus do? Praise God.
