1 Kings 21:29
"Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? Because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house."
This should convince us that everything that we do should be considered a “seed” that we sow – God is watching. Whatever we sow, we shall surely reap. King Ahab did evil before God and this time God wanted to punish him, but King Ahab provoked the heart of God and moved the hands of God in the direction of mercy with a purposeful and specific fasting. (Please faithfully read this in verse 27).
In all circumstances, our humility always honors God; and God always honors our humility. The sin committed by Ahab this time was so grievous that God couldn’t totally overlook it, but when the king had the opportunity to hear the consequences of his sins; he submitted himself totally to the hands of God in fasting. Please note that sin is sin, whether small or big and God punishes sins except He applies mercy.
Humility can redeem us from the wrath of God. However, the harvest of the seed of sin will be reaped at some point. God pardoned Ahab in his own days against evil, but his sons would face the consequences in future. The admonition today is to sow seed of goodness always; so that we can reap goodness and our children can reap same. If we sow peace, we shall reap peace and leave a legacy and harvest of peace. God is watching. Sow a seed today, because of tomorrow. There is harvest of whatever we sow!
