Isaiah 58:6
"Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of the wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
In the old and new testament Bible days, the people of God fasted to seek the face of God in some special occasions. There have been the regular fast, national fast, corporate fast, household fast, ministerial fast, personal fast, dry fast, Daniel fast, etc.
The act of fasting is to abstain from food and other pleasures of life that can take away our attention from God’s plans and purposes. Fasting is a way to starve the flesh and feed the Spirit in us. The Bible clearly states that some problems of life will not go away except by prayers and fasting. Fasting is a way and step forward to seek God.
We live in a perversely wicked world and there are bands of wickedness everywhere. Most of these bands are spiritual and invisible, therefore, we need the spiritual to war against the spiritual. Fasting commands spiritual power that no one can understand. With fasting all the bands of the wickedness shall be loosened in Jesus Name. Amen. When fasting, there is need to avoid strife and unnecessary debate. It is time to draw closer to God in our petitions and supplications.
