1 Chronicles 4:10
"And Jabez called on God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and thine hand might be upon me, and that wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
A common head ache is enough to bring sorrow, talk more of greater things, especially if the source is not properly traced and dealt with. The doctors can heal many diseases, but cannot heal all sources of sorrow. God is the ultimate healer from all ailments and Jabez knew the principles and source of divine healing. The first step he took was to call on the God of Israel. The way and manner we call on God goes a long way in receiving answers to prayers. We must have the right motive and earnest desperation in God as the ultimate resolution.
There is always something that triggers people to be desperate for Gods help. Hannah was desperate and God responded positively. Elijah was desperate against the evil of the prophets of Baal and God answered by fire. King Hezekiah was desperate about his sickness to live longer and God responded immediately with more 15 more years for him. You too can become desperate in your situation today and call on the God of Israel. Take your circumstances to God in desperate prayers.
Jabez was already blessed having being honorable than his brethren, but when sorrow struck him, he desperately called God for blessings. Jabez knew that God is the provider of the blessing that would be real, cannot be stopped or hidden; the blessing that sorrow could not attack or destroy. Whenever we seek for blessing, let us ask God for the blessing, indeed. Amen.
