Matthew 23:23
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgement, mercy and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. "
As we navigate through the month of weightier matters, it is our prayer that God will open our eyes of understanding to the weightier matters in Jesus Name. There are very many scribes and Pharisees that misled the people even in the old good Bible days; as much as we have today.
Jesus was mostly concerned with those things listed in the second part of the Bible passage above as weightier matters and they really are. Justice, mercy faith and some others like salvation, love, repentance, forgiveness, holiness, etc. To please God, there is need to pay attention in that direction.
Giving tithes along with weightier matters make a total Christian. Leaving the weightier matters unfulfilled will make the path to heaven hard if not impossible. Weightier matters are spiritual issues to assist us in all our Christian roles. Lack of weightier matters needs our urgent attention. Take a serious step towards the matters that can make you a Christian fit for the kingdom. Begin to live a well balanced Christian life for Jesus and the rest will be good history, in Jesus Name. Amen.
